After many months of working behind the scenes, the secret is out with the announcement by Kate Davies and Jeanette Sloan of their joint collaboration, Warm Hands, a book featuring 15 mittens and gloves patterns from well established as well as new knitting designers including my long gauntlet finger-less design, Amaka. I am so proud to be included in this wonderful collaboration.

I was drawn to the colours for the gauntlets as they made me feel happy and represented the colours and warmth of the African continent.

Working on the pattern, I was able use designs inspired by traditional African textiles. The name Amaka originates from Nigeria from the Igbo tribe. It means beautiful or precious and this is what I felt about the yarn, Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed, a mixture of wool and mohair. I was drawn to the colours for the gauntlets as they made me feel happy and represented the colours and warmth of the African continent.

The book is available from both Kate Davies and Jeanette Sloan and available as an Ebook from Ravelry. Amaka can also be bought from Kate Davies as a kit.
